Weekends and short breaks in Norway
Stavanger, Bergen, Oslo and Kristiansand are all convenient weekend and short break destinations from the UK, Denmark, Holland, and most of the rest of Europe with direct flight connections from London (all airports), Newcastle, Manchester and Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Paris and many other cities to Stavanger, Bergen Oslo and Kristiansand, plus Haugesund and Torp, with connecting flights from everywhere else. There are also ferry routes from Denmark, Germany and Sweden.You can find mountains, fjords, sandy beaches, old wooden towns with cobbled streets and many other attractions. There are boat trips, stunning hikes to places like Pulpit Rock, and plenty of skiing opportunities too.
Without car
Stavanger sightseeing: Relax, enjoy good restaurants, stroll around the harbours and pedestrian streets, check out a museum or gallery - or take a boat trip to see Lysefjord, Pulpit Rock and KjeragStavanger and skiing: Don't relax! Take the skibus or ski-boat, ski all day, rest on the way back to Stavanger, then go out on the town. Sound easy? Do it all again tomorrow!
Bergen sightseeing: take in the sights and museums around town, go up Fløyen or Ulriken cable-car, or do the Flåm railway and Sognefjord round-trip
Bergen skiing: stay in Bergen, and take the train to Voss, or skibuss to Kvamskogen
Oslo sightseeing: Get an Oslo card and use the trams and buses to get around to some of the excellent museums exhibitions and parks. Go up to Holmenkollen and Frognerseteren, or take a boat trip on the Oslofjord.
With Car
Stavanger region drive-sightseeing: Stay in Stavanger, take day-trips to visit the best of the sights, plus good shopping and restaurants in the cityStavanger - Lysefjord - Sirdal loop: (summer only) Take the tourist ferry from Stavanger through Lysefjord, look up at Pulpit Rock and Kjerag, then drive up and over the mountains to Sirdal and come back through Hunnedalen to Stavanger
Ryfylke island hopping Stavanger - Sauda tour: Get off the main road and discover another world amongst the islands. Stay in Stavanger, Hjelmeland and Sauda. This can be a long weekend, or get into serious relaxation mode and spend a week here
Stavanger, Haugesund or Bergen to Hardanger: hire or bring a car, and explore the Hardanger region.
